HMAA Accommodation Industry Forum - May 2008
The Victorian Accommodation Forum welcomed a range of industry professionals as speakers
MC, Dave Staughton, well known author, coach and successful tourism operator, hosted the event, bringing his knowledge and experience to the programme.
Session 1: Victoria’s strategic direction…where to from here? Guest speaker John Hindmarsh, General Manager Strategic Planning, Tourism Victoria, presented Tourism Victoria’s strategic direction, discussing the strategic marketing direction that Tourism Victoria is taking. View Presentation
Session 2: What does tomorrow’s customer want? Paul Whitelaw presented a range of statistically information, informing participants of the needs of the consumer for today and tomorrow. He stressed the change to consumer expectations and the need for the industry to update their product. Paul also discussed that the fine balance between investing and gaining a return and over investing. View Presentation
Athena Trevarthen – Athena Interiors, took participants through a make over, demonstrating where style meets accommodation. View Presentation
Session 3: Where to rating systems? Kelly McCarthy, Marketing Manager for YHA (Victoria) reviewed their position on ratings: The YHA rating system, AAAT rating system and their own customer feedback process – online and seen by all! View Presentation
Paul Baumgartner, National Manager, Star Ratings Australia, reviewed where the star rating system is at and took on questions from attendees. View Presentation
Session 4: Online marketing: The future made easy. Angus Sprott took attendees through the on line world in a fascinating and educative session. Everyone took away a series of actions to improve their on line business. View Presentation
Big Dave, the MC of the day, wrapped up all the sessions, drawing the sessions together to ensure that all attending had actions and activities to take away and apply.
The event rated an average of 4.5 by the attendees.

2007 HMAA Awards Winners
The accommodation industry celebrated excellence at this year's HMAA Awards on Wednesday 22nd August at the Medallion Club, Telstra Dome.
With a 'touch of Brownlow', the industry joined with football great Len Thompson as MC, to celebrate excellence in the accommodation sector.
Operators and individuals were recognized from across the state, demonstrating the high level of quality product and service for which Victoria is renowned.

HMAA Executive Dining Series - May 2007
The HMAA Executive Dining Series is an invitation only event and an opportunity for General and Senior Managers from major properties within Melbourne and surrounds to access open and frank discussions on key issues and engage with your industry colleagues in a social setting. The May lunch featured Paul Baumgartner, National Manager – STAR Ratings Australia, talking about 'The Way Ahead for the Star Ratings Scheme' and was a great success. The next lunch will be held in late September, please contact HMAA for more information.

HMAA Accommodation Industry Forum - Traralgon April 2007
HMAA Accommodation Industry Forums are an opportunity for all accommodation providers in the region to discuss the key issues affecting the accommodation industry. The Traralgon Forum featured Mark Challis, a well known and respected tourism industry marketing professional, presenting a session ' Marketing for Profit'. The next Forum will be held in June in Wangaratta.
